Myths About Computer Virus
January 15, 2008 – 5:46 pmHere are some computer virus viruses and other malware myths that can be harmful for your PC health:
“A disk can never be a mode of virus. So, I can safely download a file onto it”: This, unfortunately, is not the case. Placing a file on a diskette or moving a file from a diskette to your hard drive cannot prevent a virus attack on your computer. There are several memory resident viruses which have the ability to load themselves into memory once a diskette is placed in the computer.
“Sealed or registered software don’t contain viruses”: Attractively packed software does not mean that it is safe from a virus. An infected diskette can transmit the virus to the disc or an infected disc can pass on its virus to the diskette. Although such incidents are rarely found to happen, they are still a possibility.
“Only downloading from the Internet can make my computer prone to a virus attack”: Most companies try to make their content virus free before uploading it on the Internet but there are many others which do not take any initiative to do so. Also, some people deliberately deign websites with a sole purpose of spreading malware.
“There is no danger of virus attacks through emails”: There are viruses which are created to be distributed through emails. Files can be attached with email and easily infect the computer on being executed. Email virus is one of the most common ways to spread virus around the world.
“Internet is a prime source of virus. No Internet No Virus”: There are several viruses spread over the Internet. However, it is still possible to get a computer virus from any diskette or disc the user puts in the computer.
