Multiple Antivirus Programs on Computer
January 31, 2008 – 11:36 amRunning multiple antivirus programs on computer is no good idea. Though, the user can have it on the system but running all of them simultaneously can lead to hard disk crash and other havoc like slowing down the PC.
Using more than one antivirus program does not mean extra security. All reputable security applications perform the best at detecting viruses, which are by far the biggest threat to computers. An ideal way to keep virus and other malware at bay is to install a single application and update it regularly.
Antivirus programs run by using an actual virus to detect another on your computer. Therefore, if you will run more than one application, each program will take another as a virus, thereby leading to confliction. It is suggested to choose the antivirus you are the most familiar with.
Outlined below are the steps to uninstall an antivirus program:
• Go to ‘Start’ menu.
• Click ‘Control Panel’
• Find ‘Add/Remove Programs.
• Search the name of the antivirus you want to delete
• Click the ‘Remove’ or ‘Uninstall’ button. Always run your virus scans on a weekly basis.
Contrary to this, if only one antivirus application has real time protection enabled and the second scanner is used to manually scan selected files, they are likely to co-exist without disturbing each other. In some cases, an antivirus scanner will not install if it identifies another antivirus scanner already installed.
